Hokitika Wild Foods Festival
The Wild Foods Festival is held in Hokitika once a year and is a festival of natural foods, drink and entertainment. The festival is incredibly popular, now attracting some 30,000 visitors to Hokitika and the surrounding area. It began in 1990 and remains true to its roots of being family orientated and friendly.
Wild Foods
The festival's emphasis is on 'bush tucker', natural and novel food sources such as venison goulash, possum pate, vegetable kebabs, smoked eel, whitebait patties, gumboot milkshakes, gorse flower wine, spagnum moss candy floss, high protein earthworms, blue fin tuna, scallops, whisky sausages, mussels, possum and bambi burgers, kumara patties, home made ice cream, pigs trotters and West Coast whitebait.
